Artist Workshop Notes:

Students are to bring 6 bisque pots/sculptures (Cone 5-10 clay or porcelain) no larger than 6”x6” wide or deep. No bowls or plates.

Randy Brodnax is one of the top potters in Texas. He has incredible energy and passion for ceramics and all with delightful humor that reaches students on many different levels. A dedicated instructor and storyteller (born near Alexandria, Louisiana).  Brodnax is known to cook up a mean gumbo and an entertaining yarn while making stunning pots. A Master Raku Potter for more than 50 years, he has been featured in countless books/magazines, many exhibitions, a former Dallas educator, master kiln builder, and has given hundreds of workshops.

Friday: Alternative Wheel-Throwing Techniques with various surface design characteristics. Randy will transform heavy clay into lightweight, voluminous pots and add his own personal narrative to the surface. Sodium silicate texture, chattering, and hand drawing will be demonstrated while telling stories of his life experiences in the swamp.

Saturday/Sunday: Alternative Firing Techniques. Randy wants to inspire students to create special effects that are “off-center from the norm”. Naked raku, fuming, and aluminum foil saggar firings are just the tip of the iceberg in Randy Brodnax’s arsenal of possible demonstrated techniques.
