Lenie Caston-Miller

Lenie is a passionate sculptor captivated by the transformative power of extreme heat in her work. She began creating sculptures in high school and has continued her artistic journey ever since. Serving as a U.S. Army welder from 2003 to 2006, Lenie was deployed during the Iraq War as a member of Team Lioness. Her experience, including an injury that altered her life trajectory, profoundly influenced her perspective as an artist.

After her military service, Lenie graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston with a BFA in Sculpture in 2016. During her time in college, she was part of the inaugural intern partnership between the university's Honors College and the Smithsonian Institution, contributing to the digital curation team for the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Following her degree, she earned her teaching certificate to inspire the next generation of artists in Texas public high schools.

From 2017 to 2024, Lenie managed a vibrant ceramic studio at a local high school, guiding 170 students a year from beginners to intermediate levels with confidence and creativity. Now, as the co-owner of The Ranch Houston—an urban farm featuring an event space for yoga, florals, and art—she is dedicated to serving marginalized and disadvantaged communities, including LGBT+ and BiPOC individuals. This commitment to inclusivity drives her work, fostering creativity and connection within these communities.

Lenie’s current body of work features abstract sculptures that are wheel-thrown and artistically altered, reflecting the soul’s journey through life. Through her unique finishes and intricate designs, she invites viewers to explore the profound connections between art and existence. With an eye on the future, Lenie is excited to see where her creative path will lead.
